연합감리교회공보부 한인자료 담당 디렉터로 있던 김광기 목사가 10월 1일부터 총회제자훈련부의 한인 및 아시아-태평양인 사역 총 책임자로 합류하게 된다.
"오랜 기간 동안 한인 및 아태 사역 부서는 이 그룹의 지도자들이 더 효율적으로 회중들을 섬길 수 있도록 준비시켜 줌으로 연합감리교회를 위한 소중한 기관으로 입증되었습니다"라고 총회제자훈련부 지도자사역팀의 부총무인 MaryJane Pierce Norton이 말한다.
"저희는 김목사님의 자료개발에 관한 경력과 재능, 또한 그의 선교사역과 목회사역의 경험으로 같이 일하는 모두에게 큰 유익을 주리라 생각합니다."
김목사는 한인, 아시아인과 태평양인 지도자들에게 자료, 훈련, 연구 및 네트워크를 제공하게 될 것이라고 Norton은 말한다.
"한인과 아시아-태평양인의 인구는 미국과 연합감리교회 안에서 적은 수이지만 인구수와 교인수가 계속 증가하고 있습니다"라고 아이오와연회 정회원이기도 한 김목사는 말하면서 "저는 그들과 관계하고 상담하며 그들의 공동체 지도자들을 세워가는 일이 기쁩니다. 그들과 함께 가는 것은 흥분되는 일입니다"라고 말한다.
김목사는 연합감리교회 공보부에서 2008년부터 한인을 위한 잡지 편집과 한인연합감리교회 웹사이트 www.KoreanUMC.org를 책임져 왔다.
그는 뉴저지주 잉글우드에 있는 뉴저지연합교회의 담임목사로 파송 받아 6월에 총회제자훈련부를 떠난 전임자였던 최성남 목사가 담당했던 직책을 맡게 된다.

Kim to Lead Korean American, Asian American and Pacific Islander Ministries Office
NASHVILLE, Tenn. Sept. 30, 2010 /GBOD –Rev. David Kwangki Kim, Director of Korean Resources for United Methodist Communications, will join the staff of the General Board of Discipleship on Oct. 1 to direct the office of Korean American, Asian American and Pacific Islander Ministries.
"Through the years, this office has proven to be a valuable asset for the United Methodist Church in equipping this group of leaders to more effectively serve as they guide their congregations," says MaryJane Pierce Norton, Associate General Secretary for the GBOD's Leadership Ministries.
"We feel Rev. Kim's background and talents in resource development, as well as his experience in leading congregations and in mission service, will greatly benefit all who will work with him," she says.
Kim will provide resources, training, research and networks for resourcing leaders in the Korean American, Asian American and Pacific Islander ministry areas, Norton says.
"The Koreans and Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are a small population in the United States and as well in the United Methodist Church, but we are a growing population and congregation," says Kim, an elder in the Iowa Annual Conference. "I'm excited to connect with them and consult with them and equip the leaders of their communities. It's exciting to walk with them."
At UMCom, Kim has been responsible for editing and managing the Korean magazine and the website, www.KoreanUMC.org, since 2008.
He will assume the position previously held by the Rev. Sungnam Choi, who left GBOD in June to begin serving as senior pastor of the Korean Community Church of New Jersey United Methodist in Englewood, N.J.
