God's grace flows freely over wall between nations

TIJUANA, Mexico (UMNS) — Since June 2012, the Rev. John Fanestil has served the sacrament weekly at The Border Church/La Iglesia Fronteriza. Guillermo Navarrete, a lay leader with the Methodist Church of Mexico, took over the ministry on the Mexico side about five years ago. A tall, metal wall separates families from families, Mexico from the U.S. Kathy L. Gilbert has the story and Mike DuBose has the photos.

Church offers sanctuary to woman facing deportation
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (UMNS) — Maria Chavalan Sut, an indigenous woman from Guatemala, is taking sanctuary at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church to avoid deportation. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ordered her removal from the country on Sept. 30. Richard Lord reports.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Bishop David Graves encouraged prayers for those in the path of Hurricane Michael and those who will respond in the immediate aftermath. The conference disaster response ministry was making preparations as the storm gained strength in the Gulf of Mexico.

Bishop re-elected to ecumenical leadership
KABALA, Sierra Leone (UMNS) — Bishop John Yambasu, who leads The United Methodist Church in Sierra Leone, will continue to head the ecumenical Council of Churches in Sierra Leone for the next three years. He said the group remains committed to advocacy and addressing social ills in the country. Phileas Jusu has the story.

South Georgia Conference
Grant helps church open its doors

COLQUITT, Ga. — Misty Hayes is a busy volunteer who spends time serving at Colquitt United Methodist Church's food bank, helping with the church’s children and youth ministries, and participating in Colquitt's Swamp Gravy folk-life play. Nothing stopped Hayes, who uses a wheelchair, but the church’s front door. Kara Witherow reports on how the Colquitt church became more accessible.
