COLUMBIA, S.C. — As South Carolina braces for Hurricane Florence, United Methodists are turning to preparation, mobilization and prayer. “Right now we are hunkered down, watching the storm, staged and ready to respond as soon as it is safe to do so, but there is still a lot of uncertainty about its path and its impact,” said Matt Brodie, disaster response coordinator for the South Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church. United Methodists brace for Philippines typhoon
MANILA (UMNS) — United Methodist Bishop Pedro M. Torio Jr. is calling all church leaders, along with the disaster risk reduction and management teams in the Baguio area, to prepare church members and communities for the impact of super typhoon Mangkhut, reports Gladys Mangiduyos. The area already had suffered from flooding this summer, the bishop noted. "Supertyphoon Ompong (local name for Mangkhut) will be a more serious threat to life and property. Let us continue to pray for God's saving intervention for the whole country,” he added.
The United Methodist Committee on Relief also is monitoring the situation.
