Churches are shelters as Harvey moves east 

DICKINSON, Texas (UMNS) — Tropical Storm Harvey’s path of destruction moved east from Houston into low-lying border areas of Texas and Louisiana, prompting United Methodist churches to help with evacuations and serve as shelters. Some church shelters had to call for rescue themselves as the floodwaters rose. Sam Hodges reports.

Soccer leads to Roma ministry in Romania

Filipino United Methodists protest teen's death 

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (UMNS) — Filipino United Methodists joined protests against the killing of a 17-year-old student through President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs, and some signed a statement launching a “Movement Against Tyranny.” The student, Kian Loyd delos Santos, was among the 81 dead from the latest waves of anti-drug operations by the police in metro Manila. Online class: Certified Lay Ministry Module 2 — The second Certified Lay Ministry module, led by Joshua Reichard, explores basic skills needed by the certified lay minister, including leading worship, preaching and sharing faith, forming discipleship ministries and providing congregational care. Students must complete module 1 before enrolling in this class. Cost: $45. Details
