Women’s prison outreach sends message of love
EASLEY, S.C. — Following God’s call, the United Methodist Women at Bethesda United Methodist Church hoped to make an impact on the 1,200 inmates and staff of a nearby high-security prison. How they achieved that was a slowly evolving process. Margaret Comer Baker has the story.

Virginia Conference
Update: Church offers sanctuary to woman 

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (UMNS) — When the Rev. Isaac Collins delivered the opening prayer to the Virginia House of Delegates Jan. 10, he used a prayer written by the Guatemalan indigenous woman in public sanctuary at Charlottesville’s Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Collins and church members announced Oct. 8 that Maria Chavalan Sut, who has filed for asylum but faces a deportation order, was living at Wesley memorial.

Registration open for Native immersion experience

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference is accepting registrations for its third annual Native immersion experience March 13-17. The event is concentrated on three tribal areas and aims to provide history, context and a unique perspective on Native peoples in The United Methodist Church.

Ministry idea: Family Resource Fridays

JACKSON, Tenn. — As any parent can attest, keeping kids well supplied isn’t just a back-to-school expense. Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church, as part of its partnership with the local school system, is offering three Family Resource Fridays to help low-income families start the year with food, school supplies, job opportunities and other resources.

Scholarships available for ecumenical training

ST. LOUIS — The Council of Bishops is offering up to six partial scholarships for young adults and seminary students participating in the 2019 United Methodist Ecumenical and Interreligious Training in the U.S. The training will be held April 1-4, in conjunction with the National Workshop on Christian Unity.  To obtain a scholarship application, contact the Rev.
