LONDON (UMNS) — At Bermondsey Central Hall, Methodists from Africa and elsewhere are revitalizing a church that has stood on its corner for more than a century, and they’re ministering to a changing neighborhood through the South London Mission. 125th anniversary for Sacramento Japanese church
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento Japanese United Methodist Church recently celebrated its 125th anniversary, having been a beacon of hope for generations of immigrants, said the Rev. Motoe Yamada Foor, pastor. The congregation includes three people who were in World War II internment camps. Steve Magagnini reports.

Council of Bishops
Bishops to take 3 actions in Chicago
WASHINGTON — The United Methodist Council of Bishops will meet in Chicago from April 29 to May 4 to certify constitutional amendments and finalize their recommendations to the 2019 Special Session of the General Conference. The meeting also will include the passing of the gavel from Bishop Bruce R. Ough, current Council of Bishops president, to Bishop Kenneth H. Carter Jr., his successor.

Theological Education Endowment Fund
Giving challenge raises $800,000
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nearly $800,000 in pledges have been made toward the Endowment Fund for Theological Education in the Central Conferences since a giving challenge was launched less than a year ago. The Stead Challenge was initiated by Jerre and Mary Joy Stead. A gift of $100,000 will unlock $25,000 from the Stead Challenge.
