Prison ministry delivers gifts, hope 

FREETOWN, Sierra Leone (UM News) — Members of the Sierra Leone Conference and two United Methodist Women global missionaries spent the day at the Kingtom Remand Home to celebrate the Day of the African Child. The prison ministry team brought donations and messages of hope to the young detainees. Phileas Jusu reports.

James Wendell Moore remembered

HOUSTON — The Rev. James Wendell Moore, award-winning author of more than 40 books published by Abingdon Press, has died after a brief illness. Along with his work as a writer, he preached weekly from 1984 until 2006 to thousands as senior pastor at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Houston.

New church centers on community

ITASCA, Ill. — When The Center opened its doors on the property of the closed Bethany United Methodist Church, it positioned itself as a faith community rather than a church. It started as a multi-use space for the community to enjoy yoga, martial arts, a children’s music program, artists-in-residence, a weekly community meal, recovery groups and Bible studies. New hymnal on hold; other resources planned

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Work toward a new United Methodist Hymnal is on hold, given debates about the denomination’s future. The United Methodist Publishing House and Discipleship Ministries are instead planning a new United Methodist Worship Resources Collection, which will provide congregations expanded options in digital and print formats.
