Inmates learn to grow food

Women are majority in general agency workforce
CHICAGO — A desk audit of The United Methodist Church’s general agencies, conducted by the Commission on the Status and Role of Women, showed that women comprise two-thirds of the general agency workforce. Fifty percent of those in the top position of general secretary are women, compared to 31 percent in a 2007 audit. See more on the 2017 audit results in the commission’s “Women by the Numbers.”

Memphis church advocates for refugees
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Members of Christ United Methodist Church in Memphis joined with 10 other evangelical churches and spent World Refugee Day on Capitol Hill, speaking up for those forced to flee their homelands. North Carolina pastor walks for children’s health care
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — The Rev. James Brigman, pastor at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, is walking about 375 miles to Washington to help focus attention on what proposed Medicaid cuts would mean for medically fragile children like his 9-year-old daughter, Lauren Faith.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry presented the Francis Asbury Award to 15 individuals and one group from across the U.S. This annual award recognizes and encourages support of higher education and campus ministries within The United Methodist Church.
