Evangelism campaign fuels church growth in Zimbabwe

HARARE, Zimbabwe (UM News) — Surrounded by farms and mining areas, two rural preaching points of Chisipiti United Methodist Church have found a fertile ground to harvest new converts to Christ. The evangelism includes preaching, teaching, music and more. Farm owners say the church activities have led to positive changes for many of the workers and their families. LOUISVILLE, Ky. — People who volunteer with Middletown United Methodist Church’s Mobile Medical Ministry are immediately hooked, organizers say. The ministry, which originated in a Sunday school class, brings medical care to hurting neighborhoods. Alan Wild reports.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Erwin First United Methodist Church has a philosophy of “think and let think.” The Rev. B.J. Norrix, the church’s pastor, said, “We don’t have to have everybody agree to every single statement.” In a video produced by the Upper New York Conference, Norrix and church members reflect on how welcoming the congregation is despite political and theological differences.

Rethinking mission work

ATLANTA — The second of three gatherings to reconsider how The United Methodist Church conducts missionary work was Aug. 1-3 at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. Panels and small groups conversed on topics such as the historical and contemporary role of mission-sending agencies and the intercultural and incarnational nature of missionary work.
