Oregon-Idaho Conference
Land returned to Nez Perce
WALLOWA LAKE, Ore. — In a ceremony filled with song, word and action, under the shadow of Chief Joseph Mountain, The United Methodist Church took a small step toward righting an historic wrong. As 115 people gathered, the Oregon-Idaho Conference returned a 1.5-acre parcel of land to the Nez Perce nation. Greg Nelson reports.

Top court sets October oral hearings
ZURICH (UMNS) — The United Methodist Judicial Council has announced that it will hold three oral hearings the first day of its Oct. 23-26 meeting, including a hearing on a request by the Council of Bishops to rule on whether the proposed legislation for the One Church, Connectional Conference and Traditional plans for the special General Conference in February 2019 is constitutional. Korean church leaders choose prayer over plans
CHICAGO (UMNS) — The Korean Association of The United Methodist Church met to discuss legislative plans heading to the special General Conference. Instead of endorsing a particular plan, the association urged the church to pray and work for unity. The Rev. Thomas Kim reports.

Young people address migration, child marriage
JOHANNESBURG (UMNS) — Delegates to the Global Young People’s Convocation developed legislation that will be submitted as petitions to the 2020 General Conference. Issues of interest to the young United Methodists included migration, nationalism, sexism and rejection of child marriages. Eveline Chikwanah has the story. Plus, the Rev. Michigan Conference
UMCOR helps displaced Puerto Ricans
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Ruth Tobar and Guillermina Peguero began work in Michigan in April as case managers for the United Methodist Committee on Relief. They are part of a six-month effort to support Puerto Ricans who were forced to leave their homeland after Hurricane Maria struck in 2017. Kay DeMoss reports in the first of a series on UMCOR’s work in Michigan.
