Restructuring and potential savings

Something to keep in mind in evaluating the Call to Action petition to consolidate nine general agencies — even if it were to be passed exactly as it is currently written in the Advance Daily Christian Advocate, that does not necessarily translate into big savings on local church apportionments.

According to estimates by the General Council on Finance and Administration, the averageU.S. annual (regional) conference might see a reduction in apportionments totaling $72,640 to $108,960 over the next four years. For an average U.S.local church, the savings might range from $120 to $180 over that same four-year period.

I wrote about this for the United Methodist News Service last week, but given some of the comments I’m hearing around General Conference, I think this information got lost in the shuffle. Here’s the storyfrom last week.
