Human sexuality protest closes session

After May 3 morning break, a group of demonstrators took the floor and began singing “What Does the Lord Require of You?” The demonstrators are protesting the church’s stance on homosexuality. Presiding Bishop Michael Coyner asked the group several times to disperse and when they didn’t, he called the session to a close and the delegation broke for lunch. He said the next session would be closed to anyone but delegates. However, General Conference administration has ruled that the session will remain open.

That was almost an hour ago. The demonstrators are still here, and still singing. It is unclear what officials will do if they don’t leave before the next session begins.
