Grant challenge leads to Native student ministry
SALEM, Ore. (UMNS) — Eva Johnson, a member of Morningside United Methodist Church, knew exactly what to do with a $500 district grant to create new places for new people. She suggested the church reach out to Chemawa Indian Boarding School, the oldest continuously operated boarding school for Native American students in the United States. It turns out the students needed help with a project to bring awareness about missing and murdered indigenous women. Ginny Underwood has the story.

(UMNS) — Erin Hawkins, top executive of the United Methodist Commission on Religion and Race, has been elected to serve as convener of The United Methodist Church’s General Secretaries Table. She fulfills the term of the Rev. Kim Cape, who will retire in June from the Board of Higher Education and Ministry. Hawkins will serve out this term through General Conference 2020.
