Advisory: General Conference guide available for reporters

The General Conference Media Guide 2004 has been revised and is available online for reporters and other communicators covering the United Methodist Church's top legislative assembly.

The guide, provided by United Methodist News Service, provides information on covering General Conference, how the assembly works and key issues the delegates will be addressing.

An overview of the General Conference Newsroom offers details on the services being provided to help journalists at the event. The newsroom's phone number, for working press only, will be (412) 325-6080 throughout the April 27-May 7 assembly.

In addition, the guide includes a primer on the United Methodist Church, with information on how the denomination is structured, its history and a statistical profile.

The guide is available by going to www.gc2004.org and clicking on "Communication Resources." Journalists can also find information on getting press credentials and housing at that link.

General Conference is the only body that speaks for the 10 million-member global church. The 998 delegates gathering at Pittsburgh's David L. Lawrence Convention Center will revise the church's Book of Discipline and Book of Resolutions and set direction for the denomination for the next four years.
