‘Bittersweet’ departure from New York

NEW YORK (UMNS) — In a worship service acknowledged by all as “bittersweet,” the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries celebrated the rich history of Methodist mission work in New York on Sept. 27 as part of its final preparations to leave the Interchurch Center. Ruiz named 2016 Denman Fellow

LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. (UMNS) — Alma T. Ruiz, who began study in the Doctor of Theology program at United Methodist Duke Divinity School in July, is the Foundation for Evangelism’s 2016 Denman Fellow. Ruiz is associate pastor of Fiesta Cristiana in Apex, North Carolina, where she ministers to multicultural, multiethnic and multilingual populations. She also works with Duke’s training program in El Salvador.

Church worships God in different languages

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (UMC.org) — Every day, members of Central United Methodist Church are immersed in different languages and cultures. During Sunday school, Bible verses and prayers are shared in the language individuals feel the most comfortable with, whether it is French, Spanish, English, or even Swahili.
