Michigan Area pushes Haitian relief
LANSING, Mich. (UMNS) — The Michigan Area Haiti Task force and Bishop David Bard are asking for generous contributions to relief efforts in Haiti after Hurricane Matthew devastated the country’s southwestern section. Commentary: 2 weeks at Dakota pipeline protests
SAN FRANCISCO (UMNS) — Kim Bender, director of individual giving for Glide Memorial United Methodist Church, recently spent two weeks with the Standing Rock Sioux in North Dakota, protesting a four-state oil pipeline that opponents say would disturb sacred sites and pollute drinking water. “It feels really important and something that everyone should be aware of,” she writes.
Milford elected head of Publishing House
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) — The United Methodist Publishing House board unanimously confirmed the election of the Rev. Brian K. Milford as the agency's new president and chief executive officer. Neil M. Alexander, who has served as president and publisher for 20 years, plans to retire by the end of 2016.
