PARIS (UMNS) — United Methodist agencies have written an open letter to participants gathering Nov. 30-Dec. 11 in Paris for the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The letter is “in support of an ambitious agreement to address the climate crisis.”

Responding to refugees with care, not fear
WASHINGTON (UMNS) — Scripture makes it clear that Christians have a responsibility to care for refugees, says the National Council of Churches, including those fleeing the turmoil and violence of recent years in Syria. “We urge (U.S.) governors and others in positions of responsibility not to pander to fear,” the council said in a statement.

Pension board honors two South Carolinians
GLENVIEW, Ill. (UMNS) — The United Methodist Board of Pension and Health Benefits has given leadership awards to two South Carolina United Methodists. The Rev. David L. Anderson, benefits officer for the South Carolina Conference, received the Charles L. Calkins Award. Joseph Heyward, a pension board member, received the Clay F. Lee Award.
