New U.S. citizens create new ministry

ST. LOUIS — The Revs. Elsie Lisbeth Quintanilla-Perez and husband Jose Marino Chacon Mayorga, both formerly of El Salvador, are relatively new U.S. citizens. They also are the founders of a growing United Methodist ministry with Hispanics in Missouri. Fred Koenig reports on their story.

World evangelism gathering draws Methodists

ARUSHA, Tanzania — World Methodism is strongly represented at the 2018 Conference on World Mission and Evangelism, meeting here through March 13. The World Council of Churches’ Commission on World Mission and Evangelism is the sponsor of the conference, which gathers about every 10 years. Elliott Wright has an overview of the event that has drawn some 50 Methodist and Wesleyan delegates from 25 countries.

United Methodist Insurance reports progress

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The board of United Methodist Insurance celebrated that the nonprofit now insures more than 3,600 United Methodist churches and other properties. Since 2014, 98 percent of churches insured by United Methodist Insurance have chosen to stay with the nonprofit.
