NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) — “The Prophetic Voice and Making Peace,” a collection of essays that consider five thorny issues that affect today’s college students, is the first book released by the new publishing ministry of the United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry.

LONDON — Six new short films offering a contemporary slant on Bible stories have been funded by the Methodist Church in Great Britain, which calls the films “provocative, entertaining and often controversial.” Produced by Applecart, the films were released May 31.

Florida church helps families out of poverty

Key to their efforts is Circles USA, a national transformational approach that joins volunteers and community leaders with families wanting help to make a better life. A successful women’s group not only helps members become closer to God but also builds friendships. Debbie Kolacki, a Christian educator and certified lay servant in The United Methodist Church, will discuss resources for such groups including books, DVDs and online possibilities. Details

 

Friday, June 10

Deadline to make reservations for the Western Jurisdiction Father’s Day Concert and Dinner — 5 p.m. PDT Sunday, June 19 at the Chester Washington Golf Course, 1818 Charlie Sifford Drive in Los Angeles. The Western Jurisdiction United Methodist Men will honor Man of the Year 2016, Gardena City Councilman Mark Henderson. The Dozier Singers will perform. $45 for adults and $25 for children under 12.
