NEW YORK (UMNS) — When a group of young clergywomen joined an effort to provide a daily devotion to Hillary Clinton during the recent U.S. presidential campaign, they were looking to support a fellow United Methodist and also acknowledge the women who have broken both glass ceilings and stained-glass ceilings. FORT WORTH, Texas (UMNS) — Bishops Mike Lowry, Earl Bledsoe, Scott Jones, Mike McKee and Robert Schnase, representing the five United Methodists conferences in Texas, have issued an open letter calling on a “more compassionate response” to immigrants and refugees by President Donald Trump and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

Carcaño offers solidarity to Muslims

University Senate announces new members

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) — The University Senate held its first meeting of the next four years with 13 new members. The University Senate is an elected body of professionals in higher education created by the General Conference to determine which schools, colleges, universities and theological schools meet the criteria to be institutions affiliated with The United Methodist Church.

Ski Lake Junaluska — 6 p.m. EST. Leaders can customize their youth group retreats at Lake Junaluska by choosing from one of seven program weekends in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. Details 

Saturday, Feb. 11

Annual Emory Sacred Harp Sing — 10 a.m.-3 p.m. EST. Canon Chapel at Emory University, 515 S. Kilgo Circle, Atlanta, Georgia. Sacred Harp singing is a form of a cappella shape-note singing. No prior experience is expected. Hymnals will be provided and there will be a potluck “Dinner on the Grounds.” Details
