Nigeria Area Bishop John Wesley Yohanna said the three-day discussion, organized by the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries, was urgent due to Nigeria’s economic struggles and population boom. Slaughter speaks at Leadership Institute
FAYETTE, Mo. (UMNS) — When the Rev. Mike Slaughter was appointed to Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church, the Ohio congregation had 90 people with a $27,000 annual budget — including Slaughter’s salary. Today, Ginghamsburg is one of the denomination’s best-attended churches. Slaughter will be the keynote speaker at the Leadership Institute on April 27 at Central Methodist University.

April 28 Creation care event ties in to DC march
ARLINGTON, Va. (UMNS) — The 10th annual United Methodist Caretakers of God's Creation Conference is set April 28 at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, the day before the National People’s Climate Movement March in Washington. Speakers include the Rev. Fletcher Harper of Green Faith, and the Rev. Jenny Phillips, Pacific Northwest Conference. Bill McKibben, the United Methodist co-founder of 350.org, and Michele Roberts, Environmental Justice Health Alliance, will preach during the closing communion service. Participants also can take part in the national climate march on April 29, said Jaydee Hanson, chair of the event.
